UNE STUDENTS PROTEST
Students at the University of New England have interrupted Open Day, staging a protest over the institution’s leadership crisis.
Union representatives say the aim is to let prospective students know they have a voice when beginning their studies.
The protestors today handed down five demands to university management.
There are calls for the Chancellor, John Cassidy, to step down following a vote of no confidence by staff and students earlier this year.
The federal government is also being lobbied to provide more student positions on the UNE council, and a guarantee that student-owned assets won’t be sold off or privatised without the permission of the student body.
