Meanwhile, after years of fighting for improved hospital services, the people of Kempsey are about to get more than they bargained for.
A record $40 million funding package for the town’s hospital has been announced, for the first stage of a major redevelopment.
The number of acute beds at the hospital will increase by more than a third and the hospital’s emergency department will be expanded.
Lyne MP Rob Oakeshott said the funding was a direct result of the agreement signed between himself, Tony Windsor and the Prime Minister following the 2010 federal election.
