CHEMICAL SPILL CLOSES JHH EMERGENCY WARD

Part of the emergency ward at the John Hunter Hospital had to be evacuated early Wednesday morning, after a toxic chemical spill.
A nurse suffered minor burns to her leg when a couple of vials of glutaraldehyde smashed.
Glutaraldehyde is a noxious liquid used to sterilize medical equipment.
Hazmat crews with breathing apparatus cleaned up the spill and decontaminated the area.
The ward was fully reopened just after 7’o’clock.
