Former long-serving Tamworth councillor John Green has lost his battle with cancer.
The Order of Australia medal recipient was diagnosed with prostate cancer over six years ago and died on Saturday.
Mr Green served on council for nearly 30 years before its amalgamation in 2004 and was named Tamworth citizen of the year in 2013.
His funeral will be held at 10.30am on Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints in West Tamworth.
