KNIGHTS FINED FOR SALARY CAP BREACH
The Newcastle Knights have been fined by the NRL over a salary cap breach.
The fine, which relates to an individual player, came after eight months of discussions with the league.
According to Knights CEO Matt Gidley, both parties acknowledged why the breach occurred and are confident a similar incident will not occur again.
“The breach relates to the interpretation of an individual playing contract,” he said. “Our club has had extensive discussions over a long period of time to ensure future breaches in similar circumstances do not arise.”
The Knights were fined a total $88,749 for the 2012 season.
The Australian Rugby League Commission endorsed a total of $503,407 in fines across seven clubs following the NRL’s final salary cap audit for the 2012 season.
