BOAT CATCHES FIRE AND SINKS SOUTH OF GOSFORD

A boat has sunk on the Central Coast after a blaze broke out on board and could not be contained.

A 67-year-old man and a 75-year-old woman were on board the vessel at Yattalunga, south of Gosford, about 6pm yesterday when the fire took hold.

The man and woman were forced to evacuate to their tender boat when they were unable to extinguish the fire.

Marine Area Command and NSW Fire & Rescue unsuccessfully attempted to extinguish the blaze, and the vessel split in two and sank approximately 500m offshore, just before 8pm.

Initial investigations suggest the fire is not suspicious.
