The fire brigade’s hazardous materials unit is on the site of a boat fire at the Nelson Bay Marina.
Thick black smoke billowed over the bay at around 3.30 this afternoon, after the fire broke out on a 10-metre fibreglass fishing charter vessel.
No-one was injured, however the cruiser was severely damaged.
Pollution booms are being deployed.
