LAKE MACQUARIE HOME INVADER SHOT IN THE LEG DURING BUNGLED ROBBERY

A home intruder has come off second best after being confronted by a Lake Macquarie resident overnight.

Just before 2:30am, police responded to reports of a break-in on Weir Road in Teralba.

It’s been alleged three males broke into a shed at the rear of the property.

The owner of the property, a 58-year-old male, went to investigate when his dogs began barking at the intruders.

A struggle ensued, and one of the armed offenders was shot in the leg when their firearm discharged.

The three male assailants fled on foot. The owner was uninjured in the incident.

Police were contacted and following a search of the area, a 30-year-old man suffering a gunshot wound to his leg was located.

He was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.

Investigations continue.
