PORT STEPHENS TO PURSUE MERGER WITH DUNGOG

Port Stephens councillors have unanimously voted to pursue a merger with Dungog, as an alternative to Newcastle.

Mayor Bruce MacKenzie argues it’s the most logical option, because the two areas have common interests.

The council will now write to the Local Government Minister, and request the proposal be referred to the Boundaries Commission.

Last month, a petition containing the signatures of more than a thousand Dungog and Clarence Town residents was sent to the minister, in support of the move.
