GUNNEDAH TO CONSIDER WELCOMING REFUGEES
Gunnedah Shire Council will consider becoming a Refugee Welcome Zone at next month’s council meeting.
It follows news the Liverpool Plains will accept refugees into its community, and that it’s already going through the process of resettling two Syrian families.
Mayor Owen Hasler says the issue has been raised in the past and if council agrees to it, it would join a long list of others.
“The fact that 120 councils have decided to do that obviously indicates that they feel there is a benefit.”
The nation wide initiative was developed by the Refugee Council of Australia.
